MENU Unleashing Yorkshire’s Potential Through Devolution

History & Heritage of Yorkshire

The earliest known settlers to Yorkshire came in around 8770BC, in the early Mesolithic era.  Since then Yorkshire has been home to many peoples including the Parisii and Brigantes, the Romans, Angles and Danes.  Together with more recent migrants from around the world, they have each played their part writing Yorkshire’s story.  Like that story has evolved over time, so too will this section of our website.  Our intention is pull together information from many sources, including our own, to create a comprehensive account of Yorkshire’s rich and unique history and heritage.
